It’s best to keep it simple!
When I’m helping someone to improve their performance or we’re working on making shifts in mindset, I find it’s best to use simple strategies that produce dynamic results quickly.
One of the biggest struggles I see that most people face daily is getting caught up in emotional thinking. I like to think of our mindset as either using emotional thinking or objective thinking.
When you’re emotional, you don’t make good decisions and the path to success isn’t clear. But when you use objective thinking, you’re able to understand what is needed to improve the situation and why it happened.
I have developed a simple but powerful technique called “Take 5 and come back better” that I teach to all of my clients.
It helps you to recognize when your emotions are causing you stress and supports your ability to shift into objective thinking so you can learn from the experience and make choices that build positive momentum to your future.
Here are the steps:
1. When you feel emotional, stressed or overwhelmed, step away and meditate for 3 – 5 minutes.
2. Just breathe and allow yourself to process the emotions you are feeling. This is good for you.
3. After a few minutes you will feel better. Your mind will clear and then ask yourself these 2 questions: 1. How is this helping me? 2. What do I need to learn from this experience?
You will gain clarity on what needs to be done and using this technique regularly will reprogram your behaviors so you perform better in the future.
